As meat and poultry processors expand SKUs, meet custom packaging requirements, and increase line speeds, multilane production has become a key strategy. Eagle Product Inspection’s new Pack 550 PRO X-ray system addresses these needs with a high-speed, highly flexible inspection platform tailored to the unique challenges of protein processing.
Today’s meat and poultry facilities often need to run multiple SKUs or product types across the same line, manage rework, and deliver retailer-ready packages—all while maintaining rigorous food safety standards. The Pack 550 PRO is engineered to help processors maintain high contaminant detection accuracy, verify package integrity, and meet evolving customer and regulatory expectations.
Operating at speeds up to 90 meters per minute, the Pack 550 PRO utilizes Eagle’s SimulTask™ PRO imaging software to deliver high-resolution, deep-contrast images even on dense, irregular, or overlapped meat products. It can also incorporate PXT™ (Performance X-ray Technology), a proprietary dual-energy, photon-counting detector technology that delivers enhanced resolution and data granularity—essential for identifying bone fragments and foreign materials in complex meat formats such as ground products, sausages, patties, or marinated cuts.
In addition to contaminant detection, the Pack 550 PRO offers inline quality checks, including mass measurement, component count, and package integrity verification—critical for ensuring consistent fill weights and presentation in vacuum packs, chubs, and tray-sealed formats.
With Eagle Repository™ analytics built in, processors gain access to real-time production data, rejected image archives, and inspection reports to support USDA audits, retailer QA requirements, and internal traceability efforts.
“Retailer specifications and private label demands are adding complexity to protein processing lines,” said Christy Draus, Head of Product Marketing at Eagle. “The Pack 550 PRO allows meat and poultry processors to stay flexible without compromising inspection accuracy, even when managing multilane production or running rework alongside finished goods.”
As multilane production becomes more common across meat and poultry operations, systems like the Pack 550 PRO deliver the performance, adaptability, and compliance support needed to meet tomorrow’s food safety and quality assurance goals.
